Interior paint color in neutral tones outlasts more defined colors because it acts like a blank canvass for other, more vibrant colors. Those of us who have chosen bright interior colors in the past know this is true from having lost their taste for a color that they loved in the past.
Shades of cream in varying intensities combine well, for instance, because they simulate tone on tone texture just by providing subtle contrast in one area.
But cream-on-cream as an overall interior paint would would be a little dull, don’t you think? So how about providing shots of color in defining details? If you love red, you can paint a frame around a doorway in red, then pick up that color in red pots and pans, or a red espresso-maker. In the living room, you can pile decorative pillows in a coordinating prints with bits of red to tie in the colors. You can use this trick with practically any color combinations, and create a smashing, flow-on look that can coordinate the entire look from room to room. Just remember not to overdo it by combining too many different colors — two or three would be just perfect.
When you feel like a color change, just buy some a couple of pots and pans and some throw pillows in the new color of your choice and voila – a new look altogether!
You can also liven up your chosen interior paint colors by accessorizing with colorful fresh fruit or color-themed pottery collectibles. These are two great ways to introduce coordinating colors into a room by using three-dimensional decorating accessories.
