Home Office Decorating Ideas

So, you have an office to decorate. This article covers home office decorating ideas, but there is no reason why they cannot also apply when decorating a corporate office, if you are willing to give them a slightly more formal tone.

The most important thing to consider with regards to home decorating ideas is that the overall tone of the finished space should be in keeping with the
type of business that conducts its affairs in the space. If the nature of the business is more on the conservative side, then the space and its furnishings should be simple, understated, but elegant. On the other hand, a business that is more upbeat in its nature, should have offices that are more vibrant when it comes to office decorating ideas.

Neutral wall color shades are still the favored approach when decorating an office, however, combining different shades of the same color creates a more interesting and stimulating palette due to the contrasts offered. So, if you choose to go with shades of gray, for instance, you can have some of the walls in a pale gray, and maybe have a feature wall in a dark gray shade. You may decide to paint a third or fourth wall in a medium gray shade.

Regardless of approach, the walls will need to be addressed. Framed prints or pictures, again in keeping with the type of business operating within, can provide interesting elements to keep the walls from being stark spaces. They should provide interesting focal points with either subdued colors or intriguing textures.

Indoor plants that are easy to care for and have interesting lines to echo the general decor in the space will add a special appeal that will create a cozy effect in an otherwise linear space.

Furniture should have clean, simple lines and should use high quality fabric, and the overstuffed look should be reserved for residential living rooms.

Most importantly, the office should be comfortable, to encourage and motivate the owner to complete important tasks related to the business. It certainly helps if there are windows that offer a view of the outside, to avoid a claustrophobic feel. If that is not available, an elegant oversized mirror could add an outside feel.

The space should be simple, comfortable, but not too cozy, as, it is, after all, a place designed for work.
